It is true that we are blessed as a receiver as God gives us His blessings in our daily lives.
Jesus tells us in Acts 20:35 however that we will be even more blessed when we are the giver.
In this article we will see why it is more blessed to give than to receive.
1. Giving Exhibits God’s Love
Our God is a giving God (James 1:17). We Christians, who are made after His own image, ought to follow His attributes and we can show the love of God through our actions. Giving opens doors of blessings and opportunities for us to express how God has blessed us.
2. Giving Helps Us Deal with Love of Money
1 Tim 6:10, 17 warns us about the danger of our love of money. By giving, we are releasing ourselves from the temptation of the love of money. We are the faithful servants of God. Thus, we ought to take full control of our money and not have money take over our lives.
3. Giving Makes Us happy and Makes God Happy
2 Cor 9:7 tells us that God loveth a cheerful giver, which we will be when we genuinely give from our heart, not grudgingly nor of necessity. Giving drives us to focus our minds and ready ourselves to be a willing [and generous] party, it makes us a more joyful and happier person when we give.
4. Giving Helps the Church to Grow
We are commanded to give on every first day of the week (1 Cor 16:2). A financially blessed church is important for the growth of God’s kingdom, as the contributions made will enable us to set up more spiritual meetings in other parts of the world, help set up more churches and aid the needy. Our giving creates opportunities for more people to be exposed to the gospel and their souls to be saved.
Giving is a principle which God has instituted to us as a means of blessings. “It is more blessed to give than to receive” is not a statement about benefits, it teaches us to be generous which makes us better Christians for God’s glory.
