If you were given $10 million, would you be happy? Would this newfound wealth change your attitude and outlook in life? What if there was a catch: you would not be able to wake up the very next day? I'm sure none of us would want this newfound wealth. This also shows us that our lives are worth much more. Are we appreciative of each time we open our eyes when we wake up or every breath that we take?
The Value of Life
The value of life is something we all have different takes on. Our self-worth may be pegged to age group, stages of life, career, and relationship status. However, one part of our identity that should take precedence is who we are in relation to God, our Creator. In the midst of all our attributes, titles, and positions in this world, we need to realise that the key aspect of our identity is that we are created in the image of God and his likeness (Genesis 1:26-27).
Image Bearer
Images are created according to an original image; if we create an image or a sculpture of someone, we do it to display something about that person. Who we think we are determines how we live our life. And when we understand who God created us to be, then our identities will give our lives the kind of purpose that God wants us to have (Ephesians 2:10).
Letting God Lead our Lives
We need to know God and His purpose for us before letting Him lead our lives. The answers can be found in the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16). Knowledge and wisdom on God’s instructions for what He wants for us are important for us to lead the life that He sets up for us. And the fear of God is key for us to obey Him (Proverbs 1:1-7). Therefore, we need to honor Him by living in accordance with His way. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
Conclusion
Sometimes in our everyday lives, we are so caught up in pursuing our worldly needs that we forget the greater scheme of things that God has intended for us. Do not allow our identity or self-worth be wrapped up in worldly desires. Instead, let us reconnect to who we belong to, that we are created in the image of God. Remember the love He has for us and the price that was paid for our salvation. With salvation, looking at the mirror, we see the glory of God as we begin to reflect His image. Being created in the image of God means we begin to reflect Him. We live in a way, think in a way, feel in a way, and speak in a way that calls attention to the brightness of the glory of God.
